Looks like an excellent start!
The coastline feels organic and very natural .
Hi folks !
I'm working on a map for my newest roleplaying setting:
a lagoon not completly unlike the one from Venice, Adria, with a few islands with grandoloquent houses on it around the sand banks of the lagoon.
These are the first 3 steps of my work in progress:
1st: the setting. Nothing on paper but the materials are there
2nd: using a pencil and an existing lagoon for reference (Kudos if you can recognize which) and extrapolating / condensing.
Material used : HB pencil / A3 drawing pad
3rd: using a Faber Castel 0.05 mm fineliner (ink pen), going over the pencil, adding a few islands, gettint rid of the too round or too linear lines.
Thanks my dear Friend !
The work goes on:
The inhabited islands were added (trying to take into account how the current from the rivers would bring the sand and alluvions needed for an island to appear)
First canals in the inhabited islands drawn. Not as happy with that as the rest, but it's still ok. I'll see how the houses will make that better (or worse)
Continuing on the map:
- Last Islands with their neighbourghoods and canals
- an Old citadel
- an old fisher harbour on the mainland (a village will need to be drawn there too)
And a first attempt at adding colors for visibility...The sea blus needs to be stronger (maybe i'll modify this by augmenting the saturation). The places that don't have a color yet are probably just not finished
Since there are a lot of roleplayer's on the Guild, and that this map is only part of a bigger project for my blog, i thought i'd share my first post on the OSR blog here too:
A D66 table on what's wrong in the village...

Who wants to map a dungeon corresponding to these entries ?
Definitely looks like you’re off to a solid start. I really like the shape of your coastlines, they have a lot of natural visual interest. Nice job on the lettering too...that’s really an art unto itself. One that I only now am hoping to dabble in.

Thanks Josh!
I'm quite happy with the way the coastlines have come out... It's not typical with second lines with waves showing where the water is... But i'm not sure i want to add those lines now...
I've been away from here for a while (real life was in the way, and then a new RPG project took away all my time and my creativity) but i've received a few Cartography and calligraphy books and i'm motivated to continue drawing this map... Just need to find time :-D
One of the things i've worked on, was a post on "who profits from the troubles plaguing the village"
