Default Viridia - a regional map again!

Hey peeps, I'm back with another commission map, this time for an awesome fantasy novel by author Steven Mager.

This map is showing a region called Viridia, a brutal and savage place that will be explored by a group of adventurers. Fun fact: the coastline is actually based on the coastline of the US state of Virginia!

OK. So client provided me with this sketch:
    IMG_0388.jpeg

Which, over the course of some back-and-forth, I gradually worked into the following draft:
    Viridia (06c).jpg

Upon approval from the client I then went ahead and started inking this glorious beast:
    Viridia (06b).jpg

As you can see, most of the top left corner has already been done, and I'm now slowly working down and to the right. The frame of the map is a placeholder at this stage, and will eventually be replaced by a tangle of rose vines. Never done that before - it will be an adventure!

Always good to see a WIP by you, Caenwyr. I love your mapping style and will visit this thread regularly.
I'd say this looks like a strong start...curious to see how this will turn out in the end.

Thanks Eilathen, always nice to have you follow one of my follies!

    Next update:
    Viridia (08a).jpg

Still a few details to attend to (such as the flat terrain stippling, which I passionately hate!), but most large elements are there.

The frame is not there to stay of course. Like I said there will be rose vines all over, but I thought it wise to start drawing these based on this regular shape rather than the wonky one I had in the previous update.

    Thoughts? Remarks? Let 'em come!

That must be a ginormous tree over the canyon there!

Oh yes! The whole story revolves around 8 massive, magic trees running on something called Xyla. I'm no specialist when it comes to the backlore, so you'd have to ask the author if you're interested in more in-depth information, but that's the general gist. Also, these trees are in forests that are entirely enchanted by their magic tree, so eventually they'll be quite "special" in how they look

Hey, thanks! Glad you like it! Still a long way to go though

Oh don't hold your breath, it's gonna be a while, and it won't be anywhere near spectacular. Rather a bunch of horizontal lines than actual dots, so maybe I simply used the wrong word there ;-)

Okay, a smallish update this time. Little one fell ill so I spent most of my time tending to her needs obviously. No worries, she's alive and well, just a case of the flu!

Oh, this is going to be a tasty piece for the eye... I can tell.

One thing that threw me out of the balance was this sentence "This map is showing a region called Viridia, a brutal and savage place that will be explored by a group of adventurers" with comparison with the romantic rose border

Yeah, it IS a bit on the frivolous side, isn't it? Will have to fix that!
