Well this is just magnificent! Such a wonderful level of detail, and all of that on actual paper with an actual... pencil?? Incredibly impressive!
Have some rep, sir!
Hey folks,
I've been working on this map, little by little, for the last three years, and I'm very glad to finally be able to present it to you all.
My usual process for mapmaking is to hand-draw a draft, before digitising it. This map was meant to be a second draft of a simple map I drew a long time ago, but somehow took on a life of its own. I have decided, for it to remain a truly completely hand-drawn map, not to digitally alter or correct this map. The downside is that some of the linework and shading are somewhat at the mercy of my scanner.
The observant might notice I've also incorporated a couple of details from Lite Challenge submissions from the last couple of years. Even the really observant might struggle to read my teeny tiny handwriting though, so I've included a transcript below!
The Eight Provinces of Keyroar, and the Outer Domains (circa 112 B.M.*)
Trivaria - Seat of the High King
The Forge is the throne city of Keyroar. The High King is elected every fifteen years.
Estiole - The Traditional Heartlands
The hedgehog, emblem of the realm, is very common in the moors of Estiole.
Thirren - The Great Forest Province
Lost in 4 A.M.** following Macin's ill-fated expedition, partially reclaimed since.
Greylin - The Dry Province
The Desert Kings swore allegiance to The Forge in 156 B.M.
Rinfort - Home to the First Navy
The forts from Rin's Conquest still stand 600 years since it began.
Ormund - The Breadbasket Province
Bordering the bountiful Lake Hane, and full of fields, Ormund feeds Keyroar.
Haragrin - The First Province
Redrook, the site of the first landing, dates back nearly a thousand years.
Caroke - The Province of Storms
Merchants who fail to navigate the treacherous southern current founder on the Cape of Pain often.
The Domains each have a regional administrator, but do not have sufficient populations to be given seats at The Forge.
[* Before Macin; ** After Macin]
I hope you enjoy this map - I had lots of fun making it. I greatly look forward to your feedback.
