Thread: Fhierran Sea

    Wip Fhierran Sea

    Hello,

I have started on the project of an Inner sea map.
I am drawing it by section going round, the idea is to have 16 panels forming the map.
I am starting with the area of Agramor in the north west then Malerr south of Agramor.

For the moment I have done the drawing, and I think I'll use watercolours next on the map once I have progressedin the drawing.
I'll use a program to add the names and cities in a third time.

I added the southern quarter of the Fhierran Sea.

I've made a first attempt at colouring and naming the first panel so here are the first attempts.

I have not yet found how to bend the lettering and I have trouble with finding the right ouline for it to blend, but I'll keep at it.

After some trails and errors with physical drawing and painting, I decided to give digital a go.
This is the result of my first foray, Agramor, the area to the north-west of the fhierran inner sea.

    Waiting for your comments.

Well definitely a solid beginning on digital. One of the areas I feel needs a little work is the North Eastern mountains. They seem faded for some reason. Comparing them to the southwest mountains really shows what I mean. Normally, I'd make sure the colors beneath the mountains don't bleed across the lineart so much. Or add some shading and highlighting to make the mountains pop more. But I'd say fiddle around a bit and see if there is something that works for you.

((Just a side note seeing that you hand drew the map also. You can give scanning your hand drawn map and coloring it digitally if you want. That is how I started my digital mapping journey. Also, I hand drew a lot of assets and then scanned them and worked them over digitally to give several cool assets to use on my maps.))
Still, good solid start. I'd say to start teaching yourself to use shading and highlighting. It really helps with maps.
    Good luck!

    Thank you for the feedback.

For the mountains in the north, I was trying to go for a snowy look without going full white. I'll try to change the dusty effect.
I'll have to look into coloring the sprites one by one rather than doing area painting.

I'll check the importing of drawn maps to get the general land shape I had in mind.

very nice colors. I also like the colored pencil drawings. Just saw them today.

And i am also looking for a "how to" for hand lettering / handwriting.

I have redone the north eastern mountains, I hope the new look is better.
