Wip June-Aug '21 Lite Challenge: Ruins of Tiasarpa

One of my favorite types of architectural illustration is when a photo of ancient ruins is juxtaposed with an artist's rendering of what the monument might have looked like while it was still in pristine condition. And since this desert map challenge is a two-month affair, I decided to do two seperate maps, a sort of "before and after" snapshot of a desert river valley separated by a few centuries. Then I did an overlay highlighting the landmarks of the lush green "before" map by placing them in the corners of the arid "after" map:

These two maps look really smart combined together. That style works really well.

Thanks, Bogie! Can you remind me how to get my images to show up as clickable thumbnails in the forum threads?

Apparently I have to upload an image directly from my desktop to get the attachment to load as a thumbnail.

Correct, you have to upload it from your computer to your post, you can't just link to it.

    Hi!

This looks super nice! I like the desert town and its architecture. I think it would be cool if you added some roads to give the sand texture a bit of variation. It would also make it look more habitable.

You make an interesting point, Kisachik. I modeled the green version (with roads included) first, then went back and erased the roadways for the desert model. The idea was that the roads had been overtaken by the desert sands, just like all the greenery. Plus the roads on the first map are actually the same color as the sand in the desert map. I might try adding slightly darker brown roadways on the desert map but eliminate the outlines of the road so it looks more like a trail. I have time to tinker with it some more, so I'll post an update as soon as it becomes available.
