Map The Lovecraftian Mythos in the world

    Hi folks,

Last year, I had the chance and privilege to be contacted by Les éditions Mnémos, a French publishing company for which I've already worked in the past.

I pledged for a crowdfunded prestige integral edition of H.P. Lovecraft's works in French and the editor proposed me to choose between foir maps they needed for the books. I considered for a moment drawing the map of the Dreamlands but, at the time, I already had too much on my plate so, I chose to draw a map of the Mythos in the world instead (fun story, Maxime Plasse drew the Dreamlands and I ended up having one of MY maps in the same edited work as one of my all time favorite mapmaker ! Me happy pigeon ).

I did my homework and learned a lot about our world in the 1930s. I speculated a little bit to populate our world with non-Euclidian presence and here's the map.

The editor wanted a worn look for the map so, I added a custom parchment border and I regret that it has so few room to breathe but I wanted to use the page space to the maximum.

I also proposed adding glued insets (with a tiny drop shadow to sell it) for the key and the Mountains of Madness in Antarctica (which had me discover this little gem).

Finally I added the folds for realistic purpose and I guess it worked as some people thought it was a slightly tweaked a real map and not a fully hand drawn one for the occasion (believe me, that's one of the best compliment my works has ever received).

Let me finish with two pictures of the book because seeing the maps in the wild is pretty satisfactory when you drew them and pretty nice in general.

I hope you like the map

    Cheers !

    Thomas

That is pretty epic. If I bought an RPG, novel, whatever, where all the content was as kick-ass as that map, I'd consider it money well spent.

That's a nice looking set of books. One hopes that the interiors are all as well done as your contribution.

It's very funny to see what happens when you make a map that is completely out of the ordinary! The result is really great ! Bravo ! We still recognize your style, but it's also completely different, while remaining graphically very attractive !

Looking great! It fits well in the very classy books that Mnémos has the secret of.
