Paint Climate Tool problems?

Hi there, I've been always struggling to use the paint climate tool. Basically, i click it and when I hover over I have no control over the size of the brush. Is this just something it does not have or is there a command to change the brush size? Cuz it adjust based on where I move my mouth but it's never in a helpful way.

As described in the program documentation, the size of FT3 paintbrushes can be directly controlled by holding down, click, and dragging the CTRL key or by using the mouse wheel to adjust the wheel size. An indirect method of control involves using the corresponding Tool Options control bar.
I have rarely found direct painting of climate types via Tools>>Paint Values>>Paint Climate to be particularly useful.
