It is interesting that maps made for author and their books usually have to convey information in concise and precise ways, without loosing the art. In addition to the limitations imposed by the media (b/w and smaller size, less details). That said, I really liked how your map tells me the story passes around 1500s/1600s without telling me (or am I to far off?). Also, your city icons and those fading in some regions of the ocean lines are pretty cool.
