Default The Not-5-Hour-Map, a.k.a. The Purple One

So, this *was* supposed to be my entry for the 5 hour challenge. I had a lot of work on my plate, so I figured 5 hours would be a perfect way of doing a bit of personal mapping but not get carried away since I have all that work to do. And then I got carried away. I was 2 hours in and then my brain went "but what if PURPLE?!" and that was apparently all the spark I needed. My mind has been utterly consumed by this map for the past three days, and man does it feel good to have gotten it out of my system now.

So, there you go. A purple map that was very much NOT done in 5 hours.

I feel like my spirit possessed you.

Love to see the purple map! Always love it when other people dabble in weird map colors! It's great!

Love this one purple is such an overlooked option for maps. Does this mean we'll see another one for the challenge or did you run out of time?

    Thank you, guys!

Chashio: I don't know yet. I'll see if I find some time. I've got a load of commissions to complete at the moment, but if I can get those done and accepted before the challenge ends, I might see about having another go (and hopefully sticking with it this time, lol).

Five-hour challenge? How can you do that in five hours? Then I read the description more carefully, of course Great map, great colors.

I like it! I have the same issue, but in my case it's "What if I substitute this random font????"

I'm generally not one for WIP threads (mostly because I'm too lazy and disorganised to keep any updated), but here is a little breakdown of the process focusing on the bottom right section, for anyone who might be interested !

    1. I'm not a fan of the thick map border. It draws the eye away from the map, itself, even past the decorative inner border (which is actually a visual delight that showcases the map that lies within much better than that more thick relatively plain Jane outer border).

    2. The map, itself, is awash in lovely.

    3. The map is very soothing to the eyes.

    4. The choice of colors for the map borders on exquisite.

    6. The watermarks, as with most watermarks on most maps, are eyesores. They detract from the beauty of the overall map.

    7. Your choice of population center markers are well chosen.

    8. Your curved text placement weaves a visual tapestry before the eyes.

    9. Your text is legible. That might seem to be a rather obvious choice to go with, but far too many maps skimp on legibility of text - an unforgivable visual sin, when it happens with a cartographic undertaking.

    10. Your font choice enhances this map.
