Thread: Map of Pangaea

    Default Map of Pangaea

I would like to introduce this post with a thank you to whoever wants to take this commission up. I am a university student and really don't have cash to burn on things like this, but I am willing to settle for a tip if the artist is interested but needs something for their time, we all need to eat. Thank you. This is not a request for any real art to be done but just assistance with placing accurate climates.

    Subject
The already finished map is of an alternate history version of Pangaea Proxima. (theory that the continents will drift into a second supercontinent in the future) I already have maps that were not made by me to provide heaps of detail to the cartographer. The details I already have on multiple copies are the topography, winds, latitude, currents, rivers and tectonics. I do not claim these to be my own work, I found them online so would prefer to send them directly to the cartographer instead of posting them here.

    Style
I really don't need the map to be drawn in any artistic means. I would like if someone who is well versed in mapping climates and biomes could highlight areas of the already existing map with different colors that represent whatever biome would realistically appear there.

    Quality & Size
[Professional / semi professional] - This is for a homebrew dnd game. It will not be used anywhere outside of that game.
[Required for print / web] - PNG seems most appropriate, but you will just be drawing over an already existing map.
[Dimensions of map: x inches by y inches (or pixels)] - Again, the maps are already there.
[Raster / Vector] - No idea what this means ill leave it up to the professional.

    Time Constraints
Beggars can't be choosers. Seriously however long it takes, it doesn't matter to me. I will be more than happy just to work on it with someone.

    Copyright
I do not need the map for commercial purposes. The copyright belongs 100% to the artist.

Again, thank you very much whoever wishes to take this up for some practice. I hope we can collaborate and have some fun with it.

Hello and welcome. While I certainly cannot speak for anyone else, I think you will find that asking an artist to undertake this assignment for free (or for a token tip) probably will not work out. You are talking about a large area with biomes and climates. That's an awful lot of work. Many hours will be required to complete the task properly. I doubt any cartographer will be willing to donate that much time and effort to the project. I wish you the best of luck, though.

Thanks for the input. Would never have guessed it would take so long. Perhaps I didn't communicate enough information, since i already have the map and multiple copies that detail latitude, rivers, topography, tectonics, winds and currents. The final piece of the puzzle is the climates. I don't even need them to be done in an artistic way, just for someone who could place them accurately to do so with a highlighted area on the map. Do you think it will be more likely that I will find help if i edit the post to reflect that?

Might be worth a try. The less that you need done the more likely you are to find someone willing to help you out.

Sounds like your next steps are precipitation and temperatures, then you can fill in climates. Mapping takes a lot longer than most people guess, even when the details don't matter and you can put stuff anywhere you want it takes a long time just to plan a balanced design and draw/paint it.

OK thank you for the start. Yeah I've gone to the mapmaking community on reddit and they directed me to Artifexians youtube series on climates. I'll see how well that works over the next few days of work.
