Map Greek Poleis c 500 BCE

A 2nd map in my ancient world maps series, this time we're going to ancient Greece...

Paper size is 70 x 50 cm. Took around 100 hours to draw and another 40 hrs of research. Full hand drawn with ink, fine liners, quills, etc.

For me as a GM, this is a super cool map in terms of style and the artwork. I'd definitely use it to set the tone for an OSR game like Mazes & Minotaurs, or a campaign set in Antiquity. Reading the other post critiquing the amount of border art on your Middle-Earth map, I think this map strikes the balance better. The style of the emblems is less complex and varied than the images on the other map, which helps tie the whole style together better for me. Looking at it both evokes a sense of an ancient world based on the very human feel of the black and white map, and the lettering. The emblems remind me of selecting a faction to play in Total War: Rome. Overall, I really like this map!

I will caveat that I'm still developing my ideas and tastes on regional maps, as I've only drawn a couple recently, so I'm also considering your style as someone looking to improve their own cartography skills.

Thanks for the reply and for the kind words! yeah this "border" is a completely different approach than the Middle-earth map and I can understand that the other one might be too much for some people if you like these kinds of maps I'll post the next one in the series in a week or two, I working on a map of Persian empire atm, and have a few ideas more to finish the collections of prints... CHEERS!
