    Default Jan/Feb 2025 Challenge: Oasia

Like Turambar, I figured I'd get something down here to motivate me. I'm going to redo this map. Not sure what style I'll go for, and it will probably only be the northern part, not the entire thing.

15 years ago... dang, where does the time go?

Looking back at the original, one thing that strikes me is what a waste all that empty space is. My intention this time is to broaden the mountain ranges, draw in foothills, make the forests and deserts look better (obviously), and draw some new, better looking icons for the cities. Also, the state borders were super ugly.

    It's a good start.
I want to join, but when I looked through my old maps last night, I realized most of them I'd rather trash than redraw.

That's the whole point though! I think my original here is pretty crappy, honestly.

No way! There is some dead space in the Steppelands but it is a great map, notwithstanding.

Well, thanks for the kind words!

Here's some mountains done. I'm going to hand-draw this whole thing rather than use PS brushes, and the mountains (or maybe the forests) will be the most time consuming so I figured I'd jump right in.

I'm considering doing this whole thing as a black & white map, with gray for shadow accents on the mountains and other places, maybe some very minimal color in a few places (cities, decorations, border, etc) but I don't know for sure yet.

I agree, the first map isn't bad at all! Which is why I'm really looking forward to the second one!

That is, indeed, lots of mountains. Looking good so far! While I do agree with others in that the first map isn't terrible by any means, but your more recent work is definitely a bit more elegant, so looking forward to seeing the update.
