Thread: Change in the lite challenges philosophy

Default Change in the lite challenges philosophy

Maybe the reason for low participation in lite challenges is "the competition" with others. We can try to do instead a challenge in a way that if the partecipants achieves a goal, earns the compass. For example:"draw a region and other 3 map related to that region". No vote at the end, only those who finish the process gain the compass or a different award.

I think it has more to do with the relatively small pool of people who do challenges regularly and the fact that many of us have three Silvers or a Gold compass already. For my part, I am perfectly happy still participating with non-entries, since I care more about the inspiration and motivation for practicing making maps rather than the medal itself.

I think Turambar's right; we're seeing many many fewer people join the Guild nowadays, much less participate in the challenges. It's just the way of things; forums like this one are dying, unfortunately. It's pretty impressive that we've stayed as strong as we have for so long.

    I’m sad to read Diamond, but I suppose it’s a fact ?
Personnally, I do regret not having enough time to participate to challenges. I just have less and less time to draw maps, and that’s very sad for me… So I try to advance on my personal projects first, hoping that the time and subject of a challenge could just fit with my projects (for example, I’am, right now, redrawing one of my first map, but I started before it became the actual challenge) . So, from my point of view, I don’t think it’s the challenge itself that causes a lack of participation, and I don’t think that the avoiding competition will produce more participants.
I’m still enjoying a lot looking at all of your work, so I hope the challenge will go on… And I may be retired in ten years, so I hope the guild will still be there, because I plan to draw a lot more maps then… So… Keep tight !!! ;-D
But my lack of time doesn’t change the fact that I love looking at all of your works in the different challenges… So I’m glad it’s still there and that people have time to participate. :-D
