For those that are forest-impaired, like myself, are you drawing each one of those trees individually?? The look fantastic; so does the ocean.

I've got tree brushes of various styles with a dark colour and scatter settings that I use to create a base for the trees. I then go round and clean that up, delete errant trees that land in the ocean etc. I then use that as a clipping mask and go over with a lighter greener colour to give the forests some texture. Then I go over that once more with another brush individually adding lighting to add a bit of height and show the terrain. Then I tweak levels/saturation/etc and add shadows to each tree
