Welcome Aboard!
Have a bit of 'rep' for including a map in your intro post *bonk*
I'm new to the site and thought I'd look around. To contribute a bit here is one of the maps I am using for one of my current games. It's a map of the city of Stonehold, a last bastion of defense in the mountains against the wilds of the west. It uses very basic textures and techniques.
I made the map using gimp.
Any comments and constructive criticism are welcome!
Nice forum!

Theres lots of good juicy bits in this map. Rep heading your way too. Nice parchment and some of the textures. The houses are all aligned the same way and bright colors - not sure how intentional that was.
Good job on that one.
For my game I've used flash to allow roll-over on each of the buildings to display what each place is.
I will be going through these forums though soon - it looks like there's lots of great stuff here! If anyone can point me to some good tutorials I'll check back to see! I would love to learn how to make some of the wonderful maps here. Thanks!
This is a really good start. I agree on the house positioning...rotate them a bit to align to the streets and this will be a real nice gem (because of the colors which are kind of cool in a way).
If the radiance of a thousand suns was to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the Mighty One...I am become Death, the Shatterer of worlds.

The colors are that way so that people looking for a specific building in a part of town can easily tell buildings near each other apart. I don't mean to be daft, but can you explain what you mean about rotating the buildings? Thanks for taking the time to help!
I think the colors are a nice touch. Brings building features to the fore.
