Welcome to the Guild!
Hello to everybody.
After a couple of days of lurking and trying some of the tutorials I've finally decided to say: "Hello world!".
I'm a Spanish cartographer who found this site looking for some tree textures, and I'm very impressed with what I found.
See you in the forums!

Welcome, verhka...very interesting suite of software tools you have there!
Well, as I said above I work as a cartographer, I'm applying some of the technics and procedings I found in this forum.
As an example, this is a map of the region where I live.
I used the RobA tutorial about Regional Mapping and the data collected from the NASA STRM for the mountains.
I'm still working in it.

Nice!
How did you get the DEM data into Gimp?

Hello RobA!
Sorry, but I've been on Easter holyday, and I couldn't read the forum.
I'm working on a tutorial on how to work with DEM data using GDAL (I don't know if you know GDAL[1] or other OSGeo[2] projects), and how to transform 16bit in 8 bit data to work with "older" GIMP versions.
May be I should be able to post it at the end of the week.

A small tutorial would be great, vehrka!

Yeah, I'd be downloading necessary software and firing that puppy up lickety split if I knew how to get some DEM stuff and mess around with it. Do us all a cool tut and we'll shower you with...uhm, praise and envy
