Post Niil the world of Elvith Gent

    Hi folks

Elvith Gent and I are members of a french talking forum named "le Scriptorium".

This forum talks about RPG and some of us develop our own campaign setting world.
The world made by the Elvith, Niil, is also decribed here (a PDF version is available).

One day, Elvith would like to take our advice about the style of maps.

    http://forum.le-scriptorium.com/inde...showtopic=1963

In this discussion, many said that maps made with software usually looks too artificial. They prefered hand draw, wich look more "medievel".
On the other hand, I pretended that it's possible to make a "Handraw style map" with a pen tablet and GIMP.

    So they were teasing...

And I took their teasing as a challenge.

Here is the final version of the map.
While Elvith placed the names on the map (I would'nt made any mistake on his world), I used his sketches to draw the map.

So, this map we present you proudly is the result of our collaboration... And we had a great pleasure while discussing about it

    Enjoy

That's some very nice work there...looks sorta like a Schley piece. High quality, hope we see more like this from you two

Thank you, guys ! It has been a long and difficult work, but finally, I'm very proud of it. You will surely notice that the compass used is the one of the guild !

I'm curious, how did you draw the contour lines? Did you use a selection along the contour and then hand draw perpendicular dashes though the selection line to ger the nice straight edge?

Yes. I must confess it take more than a couple of hours.

I get this inspiration from old maps made by Stéphane Truffert, a french cartographer who drawn the map of "Trégor", a RPG setting in the '80s (unfortunatelly, I can't find any picture of it on the web)
