Post August Entry: Oten'jo [dropped out]

Here we go with another challenge. This one is a toughy because of the overall scope and size of the area being mapped and the necessary detail for the map to be a useful instrument. All that being said, this one is going to be a fun one.

Things I need to do before being finished:
    - Determine look and feel of map
    - Determine reason for city
    - Decide reason for canal system
    - Create land/water shoreline detail
    - Create main thoroughfares
    - Place buildings and points of interest
    - Aesthetics aesthetics aesthetics
    - Ummmm everything

This is purely a placeholder while I wrap my head around the idea of this city.

just a quick dodge and burn map on that one. It truly is just a place holder. I am attacking it from a different direction at the moment. Who knows how it will end up thought... I am thinking something sumi-e esque...

Okay here we go. I am trying to make sure I keep the info that GP created in the Tanaka thread.

    Things to do...
    1. Finish populating the city
    2. Import into PS and change style to Sumi-e look
    3. Decorative border
    4. Marginalia
    5. It seems so simple when you don't break those tasks down any further
    6. Win?
    7. I hope so

I think I am going to have to scrap the work I have done so far and start from scratch by hand. This just isn't translating well from my noggin into the digital world.

This is a really tough challenge!

I knew it would take a lot of work to make a complete finished map on this scale and that's one of the reasons I didn't participate this month

I've now been sketching the overall layout of this map for about a week, it's driving me crazy too.

It's too bad you didn't get a chance to finish your map - I was looking forward to seeing what hand-drawn stuff you'd come up with!
