I think this was a good idea euio, and suddenly your piece has some legs. Depending on your time available and your inclination, you could even put in some other perspectives, perhaps tightening the scale somewhat to show detail of a certain area with some kind of blow-up. That kind of thing can be very interesting if done well. Toff did a helluva job with that two challenges ago and he won.

Good idea. Perhaps photographs as well.

Here's a start on adding text & things to the right map. Probably not the best style to use, in hindsight.

I think the style is good, just needs a more contrasting color.

Which should I darken - text or background?

I would try the foreground and if it's not just right, try the background instead.

Damn, this looks nice so far. The side by side maps are a good idea; that way you can have both photorealism and technical data without each distracting and detracting from the other.

I should really enter one of these things one day...

Unfortunately, I have no clue where to go from here. I was going to put a blown-up map of Zürich up at the top, and got as far as making a huge chasm and a couple waterfalls before realising that 1) I'd never made a city map before, and 2) even if I did, it'd probably take far to long to make for me to finish in time.

I love this. Simple and devastatingly effective. Good work.

Thanks for your constant encouragement on this, Torstan. You and Immolate and Diamond have been a great help in making this.
