nice map and back story , its cool to see a map you drew in the 5th grade updated too
inspiring - now were are all those maps i drew 30 years ago again
So basically, Ive been doing mapping since 5th grade. Not to long ago, I came across a map I drew back then, possibly, the first map I ever did. My dad proceeded to challenge me to make an updated version of that map in Corel, so this is the result, along with the original (note the fail on the river violation)
The world itself is divided into the Midlands, a land torn apart with war, The Alliance Lands, a peaceful land with technology light years beyond that of the midlands, and The Wilds, a region in the north occupied by various races (depending on what version of the map you consult) bent on invading the Midlands.
The planet is made up not of magma, but of high energy crystals, the more powerful of which are found at the centre of the world. If broken, these crystals release a pretty big boom. however, energy can also be extracted from them through other means, a technique on which the Alliance built their Empire.
Unfortunately, when they were able to mine to the centre of the world, they accidently dropped the most powerful of the crystals, and the whole world blew up.

I'm not a huge fan of the mountains, but the overall map looks very good!
I have a bad relationship with mountains, something which I am trying to fix through practice, with mixed results. I think it might be that they are always gray, or maybe not, idk. My current map is looking a bit better though, so we'll see how that turns out...
