Oh I get it! 'Yestern' was the wrong way up?

It did take me a while to spot it, though!

It's an unusual arrangement. I'll give you that, but I do think it would look even better as two separate things. The compasses kind of get in Dexter's way a bit - but that's only MHO, and I've never tried to draw my own compass and scale

Yeah it's a concept that I'm just trying out. I'll probably separate the two pieces and perhaps use the dividers in another way.

Well it's version 12 (I think) and I've done some more highlighting of the mountains. I've also added a few trees. I did start off with one tree and made a brush from it but I couldn't get the effect I was after so these are all hand drawn, but I'm not sure about these either.

I don't have to say it, but comments, criticism and guidance always welcome

Wow Straf. Are you really going to do individual trees all the way over the canvas?

They are rather cute, but it might start to look a bit crowded if the forest is very extensive.

I think its more general practice to draw the whole trees around the edge of a patch of trees and just suggest the tops of the trees in the middle, but if you prefer to do them singly, then can I suggest using them more as tree symbols rather than an actual forest - spacing them out to merely suggest a forest, instead of cramping them together to make an actual forest?

I rather like what you've done with the forest though perhaps it will look 'busy' over a larger area. Not sure. Think I'd need to see more.

The map's looking good overall. Every time I see it, the landmass reminds me of an alternative England. (You know sometimes once you see something in a certain way, you can't unsee it? Well, that.) It's hardly an exact match, but if you break off Cornwall, flood the Thames and shrink Wales down to nearly nothing, you're practically there. I can't stop seeing it that way. Was that a deliberate choice or did it just happen that way?

I thought it was looking a bit crowded too. I've tried a few ways of doing forests - what I might do is do all the trees, then trace around them on a new layer and doing the odd tree in the middle to see how that looks. It's all still trial and error for me

I actually drew it zoomed in, moving on to the next section and then continuing until I ran out of screen, then moving the view again. This is how it turned out so I just left it. It wasn't intentional but I did notice the similarities. It may change shape again - it's taking me that long that plate tectonics take over - and I need to make it fit the story.

    You're doing famously, Straf

I'm just curious about something here, since we are both writers trying to do our own maps.

Do you, like me, find that the map and the story end up affecting each other, rather than it being just a one way road where the story dictates the map?

By that I mean, if something turns out a bit different to the way it is in the book, but is actually better than it is in the book, you kind of adjust the book to suit?
