I'm afraid not. don't darken the walls, I know that sort of perspective is tricky.. If the inner shadow seems just a bit darker that the walls it could do the job.
Thanks Tenia .. looked like just about everybody and their grandmother showed up, so who am I to decline .. also been a while since I mapped, feels good to do it again

Hmmm... I thought it was quite a huge improvement, but... I'm not an expert at dungeons at all

Thanks both of you, I'm pretty pleased with the "idea" of doing the walls like that - so I probably will. I will however also try to lighten them a bit, but proof-of-concept came first ... Good thing there still are some days left of the competition. Haven't even started on the floor yet, and then there are all the "fittings" Would like to smooth the hills into each other some more as well.

Tilt!!! Glad to see you made it! I'm back again too, so welcome to the challenge!
I like what you have so far... I was having the same problem with my eyes trying to figure out if the walls were floating or not... My only other possible concern (and I am not familiar with module dungeons, so this concern may be moot) is the straightness of the walls. Aren't these supposed to be caves? Even if they were cut into the mountain (or hillside) they wouldn't be perfectly smooth... would they?

Welcome to the Challenge Tilt. Room 49 is looking good, I like the shadow 360 degrees.
Don't forget to use the WIP tag so your map shows up in the Thumbnails!

Ah, with a closer look now I see the perspective in room 49. The other rooms were misleading me and my eyes and I though the walls were actually on top :/ Good and go on !
Thanks ladiestorm - and right back at ya
yeah.. I thought about that yesterday evening, that I'll have to roughen it up more, at least a bit
LOL.. yeah.. one would think that with so many challenges (both done and held) I shouldn't forget that Thanks Bogie
Thanks Tenia, good to hear

So I managed to get in a bit of work before stumbling into bed last night. I've smoothed the levels of the hill (but still color coded for height), I added flagstone tiles to the flooring, just the base for now, and a few experiments with "loosening" some stones. In addition I've added doors, darkened the whole color scheme and added depths to the rooms I'm not making to keep them looking a bit like my rooms.

You forgot your WIP tag again.

PS - What do you think it would look like if you dusted some highlights on the top edge of that wall? Do you think it would help sell the illusion of height? I'm just wondering, because I love where you're going with it, but, to me, there's something about the perspective that's a bit wonky. -ig
