    I suppose my main question is how do you arrive at the type of water (coloration) shown in the final product? Coast lines etc. I can do easily and, I suppose, competently enough, but I can't seem to figure out how to arrive at that kind of somewhat desaturated and still very plastic style of ocean/water depicted in your (and other cartographers') map. Is it in the layers and layer styles? Is it some kind of special texture you use?

    For example, the best I can do at my current level of proficiency is using a grungy brush with color jitter set to 100%, then smooth that layer by adding a single color layer with lower opacity over it. I tried playing around cloud renders and difference clouds but found the results in general to be inferior to my hand-drawn attempts. I suppose I would like to gain some insight about how you arrive at the type of look employed here and, for example, in the Telduria map.

    Most of the the time I use a combination of textured layers and color layers , playing with several blending modes opacity to have a result that please my eyes. On Telduria, I also use some large grungy brush to softly darken the outer areas of the sea.
