    Well, now I know why people don't attempt these kinds of city maps more often. I have sunk dozens of hours on this now and there is still so much more to do. Anyway, I managed to fill in the houses. Hopefully over the weekend I can tackle the actual ruins (on top of the cliff side).

    Nice job arsheesh, though the smaller houses are kind of too noisy and looks a bit odd to my eyes.

    The terrain is astounding, the structures are not at the same stellar level.

    Thanks for the feedback guys. The houses have been difficult, sadly GIMP's Layer Effects editor is neither as powerful nor as accurate as that of PS. The graininess you mentioned was my attempt at attempting to convey that these buildings were thatched (in fact, not having much luck with Bevel and Emboss I used RobA's "Thatch" script for these). Not sure how else to achieve the look but I have attempted to reduce the contrast a bit to see if it helps. What do you think?
