    Thanks everyone!
I'm a bit out of scale with those mountains, I think... But well, let's pretend it's a strong vertical exageration (hope it's fine for you Warlin).

Some color tests on the top left part.

I think I'll add all the holographic/modern interface stuff afterward.

I don't know how it looks for you, but it's quite different depending on the screen...
Just did a bit more this afternoon, (with the begining of a volcano). I'm hesiting a lot with too many things... and constantly changing my mind about layers.

The second looks more contrasted and somehiw more crisp , but I like the subtle tones of the first a little more.

Oh man... I already want to eat your brains for this, Ilanthar. I agree with Naima; the subtle look of the first one is killer.

I can't decide which one I like better, but I'm actually thinking the second one myself. I think the stronger colors give it more life. But they both look awesome!
Like a thief in the night
    she comes with no form
    yet tranquility proceeds
    the accursed storm...

I think I actually agree with Ladiestorm on this one. The brighter colours somehow seems more prehistoric -- if that makes any sense -- which fits the story better. My only doubt about the second one is that it also makes it look a bit more like it is computer generated. I think it is mostly the brightness of the highlights on the tops of some of the mountains, that makes them look a tiny bit shiny.

Man, I just read the challenge info - that is a hardcore challenge.
    This is gonna be good.

I can see both points of view on the two versions.
I like both for different reasons, so I'm no help there.

I'll have to concur with Naima and D, I think the green looks more green in the lighter version and that works better. But then again, the second one does evoke a feeling of a different kind of vegetation. I'm immediately thinking of deep, dark jungles when I look at it. Not sure what will work better for this project.

Looking great! I love these isometric relief maps. Tbh I like both versions, but for different reasons - as Kell said, the second one gives a tropical jungle feel. The first version is light and nice to the eye, though.

Some more mountains in the first style.
