This looks great, and I'm always impressed by you cartographers who can paint the old-fashioned way, with actual paints! Since Lark is a northern mining and shipping town, I think subtle colors would work quite well, as would darker shades.

And inked, I have made a pledge that my next map will be on larger paper... because... hand lettering - yeesh...

Now I have to commit to a colour palette and paint

    And progress, painting started
    • Lake colour added - Wash composed of Prima Marketing #23 (approximates ultramarine blue), with a touch of payne's grey and sepia to dull it a bit
    • First wash applied to the buildings - Primary wash Sepia with Light Red, with added Light Red content for variation (Manor recieved a touch of burnt umber as well)

Next on the list is to add roof shadows to buildings.

Meanwhile I'm still on the fence with the rest of it - I kind of like the idea of evoking snow-cover outside of the main thoroughfares and roads so I'm just debating road colour now and I might leave a lot of the rest white, maybe with some subtle shadowing... we'll see, I'm open to suggestions as always

You chose a colour theme matching your nickname I like the warm earthy tones very much and I am very impressed how fast you progress! Do you work on this every day?

Thanks! And yes I've been working on this one almost daily, I don't always, but occasionally I get obsessed.

    Question

    Lark 7.jpg### Latest WIP ###

And now all the tiny shadows on all the tiny buildings - Shadows were mostly light-red mixed with some blue (same blue as the water)

Does anyone have any good tips for how I might better show that some areas are snow covered? Or even just good examples of some snowy maps handy?

I experimented with some shadowing up in the NW of the map, but I'm not sure how successful that is...

More progress, getting very close. Grey of the streets added using a purple-light red mix with a touch of payne's grey.

Wow and you added all these trees. Now the map is really coming to life! I'm sorry to have no good advice for your snow problem. I wouldn't even draw a cat by hand But I googled around a little and found, that maybe adding a little blue (perhabs in your mountain ridges) could suggest cold and snow like in this pics: https://robestivill.files.wordpress....2&h=315&zoom=2 and https://www.123rf.com/photo_32075541...s-pattern.html. Sorry, if that is a stupid idea!
