I'm not really following the river method, but don't worry about explaining it all over again. You haven't got time for that.

I notice that the temporary rivers have a tendency to start at the top of the mountains instead of in the groove of high level valleys, but I bet you'll sort that one out before too long

Erm, it's not really a river but the path of a single drop of rain I've repeated it over a few billion years and worked out its average flow

Not all rivers will make it to the final cut, and they certainly won't be spurting from the top of a hill like a garden sprinkler

OK maybe I got carried away with my rivers, having spent the past hour and a half on them...

    Time well spent

I realise you are hurrying along right now, but you might want to break the coastline and turn it a short way into the river mouth each time so they aren't cut off at the coast?

That's for when the eraser comes out

Quick question - if you saw this on a map, what would you assume it was (apart from baby scribble )?

Oh now talk about putting a person on the spot! LOL!

I really don't know. If you want me to be completely honest with you, it looks like a thick paint spill, but I'm pretty sure that's not the answer you were looking for!

    Is it a forest?

OK, that'll do me - I told myself it looks 'jungly' but that was me, I needed someone else's eyes. I'll try something else Thanks

You might find 'Photo-Realistic Forests in GIMP' by Arsheesh useful?

(Its about half way down the first comment)

What if I don't want it to be photorealistic? It's OK I'm just going to block it out with colour

I've started to block out the bits:
