Thanks for the positive critique! Also, have you seen the updated version I've posted above? I've adjusted the brightness of the parchment layer and tweaked the overall hue of the map, so now the distinction between land and 'sea' should be more pronounced and the map shouldn't look so washed out.
And I understand your point about the drop shadow on the icons, but I was careful about retaining a flat look to the map, like the icons were actually drawn on the parchment, and also because I plan to have a print made to hang on my wall, and I suspect a strong drop shadow effect will weird on a vertical surface. But I'm glad you like the map overall.

And yes, that certainly was an improvement! Fantastic! Can't rep you again, unfortunately..
Correct. An order. Now go forth, my minion, and create!

    Also thanks.

Okay, well, when you decide to redo a map, why not get done, as in finally done-done-no-more-adding/editing-done? Yeah, I just can't seem to do that, so here is a (hopefully damned final!) version of the map. Just a wee bit of retouching, but apparently necessary, says me.

Oh if you only knew how often I've used a file name similar to that for my maps...

    Great map!
But what really takes my breath is that border and the compass rose. Now I'm intimidated...

Hihi. Getting mean with it sometimes sets your mind right and helps with making a decision, no?

Tanks! I really dig those elements as well. Sometimes I wish I could just use them for every map, but then that would get a bit copy-paste-y, right? And again, coming up with a new interesting compass rose or wave texture for your oceans or using some cool new font for your labels is half the fun making maps!

I believe that - I wish I could come up with ornaments of that quality.
I am assuming those were all done in Illustrator? They connect really well with the map. Whenever I place vector shapes on my maps, it always looks so digital, with the clean edges and all. But in your case it really feels like paint stamped on a linen canvas.

Not at all. Entirely done in Photoshop, but partly with the vector tools from PS. I have zero experience with Illustrator. I have considered learning how to work with vector graphics, but it just seems like a hassle, I guess I can't be bovvered.
