While I was taking a break and sipping a Devil beer (and not listening to Dimmu Borgir) I stumblec across the RRM mountains tutorial and gave it a shot. And this happened.

Bit of a break from hand-drawing turned into, umm..., about 3 hours of playing around

Wow, looks like an awful lot of self punishment to me; are you attempting to do penance or something Lukc? Seriously though, this is an impressive undertaking.

    Cheers,

Yeah, I'm preparing for merry December, so I'm making penance for all the alcohol I'm going to drink then!

That classic line-hatching is looking amazing so far. very impressive.

This project is pure insanity and I love it.

Wow... And here I thought I had a tendency of making things tedious for myself!

Looking very cool though! Very interested to see how it evolves....

... or devolves, perhaps, depending on how much say the alcohol has in the matter.. :-p

Not likely to devolve much, since I generally stop drawing when my fine motor control gets shot

I've realized there is *no* way I'm going to have the mountain ready in time for our gaming session on Wednesday, so after work I set to tinkering with a different, quick and sketchy concept ...

then I decided to add some texture to it, just a wee bit. And then, an hour or so later, I ended up with this ...

    rdeci-rov-v2.jpg

... which pretty much killed anything I could do with the sketchy work. :S I feel silly.

The 2 of them are very different in style and I'm not sure I'd prefer the colour one (for now).
Depending of your personal use of the map, the time you have to do it and how much the "printer friendly" aspect is important we can easily prefer the first or second version.
Schley has made awesome maps with the first style. Check it out:
