I have discovered (for the umpteenth time) that I am rubbish at drawing mountains - at least when I draw them I can't get any sort of consistency across the whole map.

I have decided, against my better judgement, to go with some mountain brushes from Blaeu's Atlas of Scotland - 1654 found here:

What I'm not totally convinced on is how the mountains tie in with the coastline - the styles are obviously quite different - possibly the application of a canvas texture at the end will soften this, but I am not too sure.

The font is Horroroid from dafont.com - in a nice blood red!

I can feel your pain about the style issues, I am gonna have the same problem with my entry at some point. Perhaps thickening the edges of the coast line and/or darkening the associate shading on the left edges would help. Then again, maybe not, but I do like those mountains and think you made the right call in changing the overall shape.

Thanks GW, I think this one is going to end up being a mishmash of hand drawn and brush features.

Anyway, a bit more progress, and I got bored with drawing lines and such, so I threw a little bit of colour at it to end the evening off...

...and a bit more done on this. I think most of the linework is finished apart from the frame, although there are a few small bits that need to be tidied up.

Yup, looking good now. With more features in there and that parchment background, the "style differences" between the mountains/hills and coast really aren't very noticeable now.

    Thanks both.

    A bit more colour.

Need to try to figure out something to do with the frame, and then add all of the text.
