That's looking excellent Straf! I have tried caterpillar mountains several times, and just given up in disgust because I can't make them look good...
Just one comment with regards to your mountains: Would it be worth trying to vary the width of the mountains within each defined range?

    Just a thought...

I'm still playing about behind the scenes Tonquani. At the moment my map looks like a view through a microscope of some demented cell of some kind I'll get there with the caterpillar style, if not this map then another. I'm going to leave the mountains for a few days and potter on with some other stuff. I have the rough locations for them anyway.

One of the good things about these challenges is being able to push personal boundaries and try something new. I'm still very much a beginner so I have lots of different things to discover and learn about. I have realised that what I am aiming for and what I produce might be two very different things but if I can make the latter half decent regardless I think I am doing quite well. There are artists within this guild who have developed distinctive styles but are equally adept at emulating other styles and they also use the challenges to step outside their own comfort zones (if such a thing even exists) and it is often a joy to watch their WIPs.

Not much of an update other than I didn't really like the coastal rings so I've redone them. If they seem a bit faint I can increase the opacity a bit.

They're too faint so I increased the opacity:

I prefer the first one (just to be awkward!)

    Sorry!

That sort of thing can be easily adjusted

I've given up with caterpillar style mountains. I need a lot of practice with them I think. So I've tried a different approach. Any thoughts?

Nice Straf, the later is more "realistic" but I prefer the caterpillar style, maybe with some more elevation steps ?

Looking good. Maybe the shadows outweigh the "lit" side of the range?

I agree with kenan, boost the width of the lit side of the mountains and then the shadow isn't so overpowering and that gets the side benefit of toning down the rivers.
