Using similar techniques I spend a couple hours this morning and created this one.

Yeah I like it - it's clear enough to be easy to read. Placing labels may be a bit of a problem, most normal fonts would probably clash.

The forests look kind of like a Seurat painting. Still, I appreciate another mad scientist experimenting with new things.
If the radiance of a thousand suns was to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the Mighty One...I am become Death, the Shatterer of worlds.

Thanks guys. The comments always inspire me to keep at it.
@Ascension - I love it when I learn something and you just introduced me to something new. I had never heard of Seurat but after looking him up I totally see what you mean. I wasn't convinced I was finished with the trees but I also didn't know what more to do with them. Things could be worse than looking like a Seurat I think
The thing I like about experimenting is that I can just relax and go with it because it doesn't matter if it fails since it's an experiment. Sometimes it frees me up to just go. You know, when you have to make something look a certain way it can kind of bind you up artistically and if you are like me then you might be inclined to put off working on it.
One great thing about this style is that I can create it in about two or three hours now. Maybe quicker once I practice it a few more times.
I will have to attempt labels now just to see if they pose any more problems than they typically pose for me. I might also attempt a larger world size map to see how that turns out.

Everyone who requests a Jasmine Coast style map hits me that way - experimenting is way cooler.
