Finally got Wilbur to work. However, it missed the river tracks in some spots and did not even make rivers in others. The two white ellipses are where Wilbur missed slightly. The two red ellipses are where Wilbur missed entirely. Below is the latest version that I am still working on.

BTW: Found some new software that is supposed to track drainage on a greyscale fractal map, but preferrably DEMs. Instead of trying to find rivers, it finds drainage and watersheds from greyscales (DEMs). Now I need to find some software to convert over to DEMs. Haven't tried it yet, but looking forward to using it and see what happens.

It looks like Wilbur hit the water paths as drawn. It's hard to tell from the color information, though. The problem of flow channels is that even a 1-pixel error can throw the path of steepest descent to one side of the intended area. A flat area is ambiguous so the river may end up routed along the edge of a flat area because there is no water flow across that area.

Wilbur has a Fill Basins tool to enforce connected drainage. I don't think it will matter in this case because the drainage already appears fully connected (that is, rivers all flow to the edge or sea).
