Sketchup is a fantastic idea for representing your map in 3D, I believe you can change it between axo and perspective view (though axo is best suited for maps!) Your detail is beautiful though, especially the little harbour who have there. Should look amazing when done!

This is going to be quite a piece!! Inspiration for doing a city starting with sketch up. This will be my screen saver once it done, so that I can look at it all the time. Just a great job here. Still looking awesome! I love the way you did the surroundings except for one thing : it looks a bit abrupt, with no transition or walls to separate the city and the surroundings.
