Great job on this, Robulous! You've really nailed the style. I love the colour palette and the typography, and those little illustrations are fab.
I love that this idea has been kicking around in your head since you were 16!
Cool! Love seeing those first stages, how the mind sees or plays with the map idea. Thanks!

A beautiful map! As Thomrey said, the rendering "old atlas" is perfect! And the city seems quite exciting!
I love the "old" look to this map. It makes me want to draw a map of my neighborhood like that!

Thanks so much to everyone for your comments and all the rep! I'm really pleased with how this turned out.
It's funny how even if I try to apply the same style to a different map it doesn't quite work and I have to make tweaks - I'm working on more from my Helevos world, and I should probably do an intro piece about it, so stay tuned
I have to say, I love this map as much as everyone else. The palette feels exquisitely balanced to me, and I love the subtle folds that give the impression the map is used, not just displayed. It really is quietly magnificent.
(And the price stamp on the upper right edge is a perfect touch.)
Just a couple very small typographical comments. In the text for the Roaring Man in the upper left, the third sentence begins, “He Man was cast down by the Prophet Therion….” Presumably you meant to write “The Man” and the wrong letter was capitalized…otherwise it sounds like Therion cast down an 80s cartoon. : )
Also, in your text you name the Great River Wíyel with an acute accent, and this appears in capitals for “Gulf of Wíyel” at the top of the inset map. But the same map gives “R. Wiyel” in capitals without the diacritical, and “Wiyel Mioro” is also missing the í. Not sure if there’s a linguistic subtlety there or just an oversight.
Apart from these extremely minor points, the overall map is glorious. The more I look, the more deft touches I find. Well done, a thousand times over!
Thanks for your comments Sanderling!
Well spotted, I've fixed these now as a final FINAL change. The river is pronounced similar to "while", but I changed the spelling from Weil to Wiyel, which I then realised had to be spelled Wíyel in the local language, hence some inconsistencies. Anyway hopefully it's all fixed - any more problems I'm going to put down to inworld "printers errors"!
Resurrecting this thread in hopes of sympathy: just realised, months ago I must've accidentally saved something else over the original file for this, with no backup and no way of getting it back...
My own carelessness, I'm such an idiot
I'm so sorry for you !! Such a beautiful map ... Too bad...
Aw man, that sucks.
