This is going to be such a great map when it's finished. I love it so far.

    Keep it up!

    Cheers,

This is looking really good so far, Dan. I really like the Asian-inspired mountains.

    A few points so far:
--the labels are sometimes very difficult to read, especially where they overlap the mountain linework.
--there's something a bit strange about the mountains on the fire nation's island. I think--if it isn't too late to change this--that it would look better if the highest mountains poked outside the coastline of the island.
--the colour on the sea looks really good, but I wonder if you could also perhaps include an Asian-style pattern overlay? (sort of like this) I can see that, at this stage, that might be a lot more work, though...
--would you consider mapping the route that Ang took around the world? I think that could be a really nice thing to add (maybe as a companion map to the original)

Also, I've just recently been introduced to the series, and applaud your efforts to redo the map. I myself am working on an Avatar fanart painting, which I hope to complete in a few weeks and submit to DeviantArt.

I love the map, especially the mountain ranges look amazing. I've always been a fan of that style of mountains, and you managed to pull them off in an excellent way.

I wonder if you want to also show roads and trade routes on this map? I sadly have never watched Avatar, so I don't know how relevant that information would be to the people inhabiting that world, but right now the map seems a little empty for my taste. Maybe that'll change with the addition of settlement icons, though.

Thanks for the critique THW. I have tried out some of those things. The ocean pattern didn't quite work but changing the mountains just might. And I have also changed the labels to make them more legible.

I've looked up your DA account and I'll keep and eye on your progress, it looks like it going to be very cool!

Thanks Lucifer. The avatar doesn't have an extensive road network so I don't think I'll show roads on the map. I want to add "coat of arms" for the Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, Air Nomads and Water Tribes. That might fill in some of the empty space.

Hmm, I wouldn't know... The show ran from 2005 to 2008. I believe it was quite a big thing, at least it was here in the Netherlands. I would certainly recommend it (both The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra). The first seasons are more for younger audiences, but throughout the series it gets more mature.

Wow, this is great, Daniel! I love the colors and the unusual mountain style. Everything is just fine, imo. I'm looking forward to see more.

    Thank you Ilanthar (:

here another update. I haven't spend much time on the map, so not much has changed. I have added some towns and changed the labels a little. The should be more legible now. I still have to fill Ba Sing Se with houses and draw Omashu, Fire Nation Capital and the Sun Warrior City.

Looking at it now I fear I may have drawn the cities and towns a bit on the small side. Perhaps I'll see if I can enlarge them later.

    Let me know your thoughts!

I love the flavor your map transports for me. It makes me want to rewatch all of Avatar So i'd say: well done!

Is this full resolution? If not, would you be willing to share the finished map in full res.? Because i'd like to be able to see more details and zoom in to my hearts content I might even use it for a pen and paper rpg, because i think the world is highly game-able.

Anyway, as i said, very good looking map. I love the Chinese characters a lot. Looking forward to more...

It certainly has a 'feel good' thing about it, doesn't it

Thank you Eilathen! This is 25% of the actual size so I can certainly post a larger version of this with the next update! (:

A 'feel good' thing is a good thing, right? Thank you Mouse!
