    In reply to your tectonics question: I think it could be explained by different processes happening at different times and it would depend on the tectonic setup overall, but I'm sure Pixie would have a better explanation.

    I would say that the thin strip began to rift to the west long ago, but is now not active (a 'failed' rift) leaving a narrow sea, and now the oceanic plate is subducting under that thin strip. I'm not sure if the power of the subducting oceanic plate might push the thin strip back towards the mainland? I'm not sure if it would be possible to have both processes 'active' at the same time, though.

    It's plausible, though just how plausible depends on the movement direction of the "parent continent" and on the rest of the tectonic boundaries.

    Here's a rough up of the boundaries, movements, and major orogeny.

    Blue = subducting
    Red = rift
    Green = transform
    Purple = convergent
    Grey = orogeny zone

    A more complete version:
    base cont shelf plates.png

    Again...

    Blue = subducting
    Red = rift
    Green = transform
    Purple = convergent
    Grey = orogeny zone

    Any glaring errors? Does the microplate I was asking about earlier look good?

    And geologic provinces:

    Version A:
    base geologic provinces.png

    Version B:
    base geologic provinces b.png

    Continental:
    Orange = sheild
    Pink=platform
    Dark Blue = basin
    Light Blue = orogen
    Yelow = extended crust

    Oceanic - lighter = younger, darker =older

    Been busier at work, but here are the latest updates...

    One note is that it's starting to get into the "odd" bits of this world (more of which are to come, which will effect temps, winds, and climates). The large depression mid-continent is the first non-natural feature.

    Elevations:

    And with icecaps:

    Still looking okay?Any comments or questions?

    Is there anybody out there? Haven't had a reply in several steps?

    I am a bit new, but depending on what your final project will look like, you may want to try and put some texture onto the map if any of these will be part of the final project. Or you could go into the gritty detail of putting islands or smaller features in.

    One thing I do know is what do you envision the final project to be? Are you world building or are you trying to get a terrain map? If you have a path you want to go on, specifying what that is would provide more focus for the experienced people here to offer accurate advice for what you are trying to do.

    All in all, whatever you're making, it looks like a fine start to me.
