I think I like those lighter colors a bit better; it'll be easier to read text, and helps differentiate the region a little better from the surrounding areas. And I love the heraldry!
And here's some roads+dots. I am going to integrate the heraldry into the labels, and add a little Legend.
Also changed the colours a little bit... Not sure on them, but I'd appreciate some CC

I really liked your previous map but this one looks even more promising.
The new colors are an improvement IMO, they add contrast and a kind of glow that looks really cool, a bit eerie. Could you add a bar scale ? I was also wondering about the rivers leading to lakes and rivers going from those lakes, I thought that was very unlikely.
Update: Of Heraldry and Duchies

So, I applied an old border I had laying around from my old map (I'l add a twist for the outer map-border) to the little heraldry Legend. Adding in my lore notes, and placing the Heraldry on the map itself! This one was the longest session, so far. Thoughts?
Great success! That looks pretty spiffy. And I love some of the names in your Heraldry key. Personal favorite: Balder the Wrong.
@Diamond - Yes, Balder the Wrong is quite the character... One can only imagine what he messed up! (hint: perhaps whatever it was is what landed his fief out in the far East, far from the heart of the Realm)
Here's a preview of the top corner styles: I'l add in a little cherub or dragon, some heraldry, maybe. The black part will be filled with either some form of flourished relief OR some medieval stained glass/mural type imagery, haven't really given it much thought, but I will try styles tomorrow.

And here's what I'm planning for the bottom style:

While i like how the map itself progresses (i really dig the heraldry, the pastel-y colors are easy on the eyes) i always cringe at those kind of pseudo-german names. As someone who speaks German, most of those names just hurt my ears (and it's also kind of jarring in combination with reading the rest in English because my inner ear switches pronunciation automatically). In the context of someone who only knows English (or any other language beside German) that might not be a problem, obviously.
As for map elements ... are those mountains? Or hills? If those are mountains, i think they could be more mountain-y, so to speak. They look more like steep hills to me.
I'm very curious to see where you go with this map.

Still I reach out for the Stars
@Eilathen - Yeah, I'm also a bit on the fence about the names. I really wanted it to be sorta German-y, but at the same time, it's quite difficult to articulate. I used google-translate and an earlier reply to have a go at it, but I'm not quite sure yet. It would be very easy for me to switch it all over to English, I wouldn't mind it, since I have this map sketched out in full, and this is more of a vanity/practice project. As far as the mountains go, I wanted to do something different but it didn't fit with the parchment style (think heightmap relief type mountains), so I just mirrored my old map.
So, what're your thoughts? Should I switch out the pseudo-names for English versions?
Also, adding in my work on the border. The laterals will feature that simple interweave, but the black parts will feature other things... Which I will test a little bit more, and post results soon.
