The land and sea floor are looking great but the rivers seem like they could do with some more work for sure.

Yes, for sure! I'm planning to rework them with a much finer brush at the end of the terrain job (which might still take some days), following the terrain more closely. That will be a fun little exercise all by itself.

By the way, here's the continent of Odisier! And a few options for the surrounding area.

Aurelia_world_10c.jpg (a more subdued, warmer parchment)

Which one (if any) do you guys prefer? What would you change?

I think I prefer the white of the marble, it makes the colours of the map pop a little more.

I like the beige, with some further embellishment it could look very nice and clean. This is really progressing just fantastically, keep it up, I'm enjoying watching this one unfold.

I would avoid both, the Map its a modern style , and I think a parchment style isn't really fitting unless you want to make the map itself look like if printed on it, as for the marble , its too bright and I would use only if the Map is to be a carvd or part of the marble itself, whichactually also gived me a cool inspiration ... but how aboutinstead go for a golden background withsome kind of design that is not too much distracting from the map , the map look like two half od an emisphere and the golden border reminds me of something from a clockwork , a mechanical device or something like that .

For me, the marble is too bright and the pattern is distracting.
The beige looks better, but I'm not sold on that color.

If I’m to give my two cents on the issue, I’d say neither of the two colours. Seems a tad garish for my taste, perhaps a simple white with a nice border around the projections. It needs to be one that isn’t as busy as the map, and a colour that fits

Alright, thanks for your input guys! I agreed with many of you, and had a chat with client about it. They preferred the marble, so that's what I'm going for. Eventually the golden rims around the hemispheres will be made a bit wider , and there will be writing in them using client's very own runes.

For the time being, here's an update with all the continents filled in, and a major redo of Lamoura (the southern continent on the left hemisphere) to better reflect the presence of a rift valley, instead of two rather stupid-looking mountain ranges that almost touch bellies.

I've now begun smoothing out the coastlines and the terrain in the lower elevations a little bit. Most of the work is done on the left hemisphere already, and the right one is up next. After that I'll reintroduce the rivers, this time as pencil-thin lines following the terrain a bit better than in my quick mock-ups posted earlier.

Really looking amazing now! Can't wait to see the finished version.
