This looks really great so far. Love the mountains, and the way you do the forests really works well for a map of that size. What type of brush did you use?
It's looking really good. What is the little black shape at the top right?

*snigger* Well. It is the way it is, I guess.
Anyway, I had to sort a few things out in my life, but now I might actually be able to get creative again.
After fiddling around with Pasis' style, I came up with a similar technique. Here's what I've done so far:

As to the how and why and coloring etc. I'll post that later.
Have a good night/day/morning everyone!
Worked on the overall topography of the main continent and might be done with it, apart from some future tweakings. Next will be everything liquid!

Cheerio!
Looking good so far. Interested to see what you do next.

Thank you guys. I'm debating whether it's me needing glasses or if it's all rather blurry... It's highest res jpeg, so it wouldn't be the resolution.
I'm also a bit clueless about how to apply the coloring. Ilanthar, how did you do it in your latest map? If I'm correct, you also have a relief layer and had to apply colour afterwards. My problem is that with an overlay layer the colors won't stay true, of course, but I can't remember for the life of me how I did it in earlier maps... it's been too long, obviously.
You're correct . I have a layer for land colors above my topography layer. As for this last one, it's a mingled painting of different colors, playing with opacity (for example, I add the snow in the end, with a lower opacity). The color layer itself has a "strong light" effect and an opacity of 35%.
And that's why I always try to write down a map process that I like . I didn't before, and I couldn't do my old map the same way.By Llannagh

Ah, okay, you set it to strong light. Interesting. I might try that. MAgically the overlay worked on a second try though. Which I find a little puzzling, but I strongly suspect an earlier fault on my side. Thank you for explaining, though!
I played a bit with coloring and came up with two different versions:

I obviously went over board with details and saturation in the right version (which was the first one I did). I do like details though and I'm still not sure whether to include those foresty regions or not.
On the left I did the coloring heavily inspired by Ilanthars latest map. I guess that would work for a map that concentrates more on labeling. As of now, I like it a lot better.
I also worked on a few mountain ranges in adding snow and contrasting them a little more.
I also added a water layer, so it's easier on the eyes.
Good night everyone in map town!
