Found a nice but not free ($32 US) font to be used on maps:
Zwoelf
“A good choice for short texts, headings, witchcraft potion recipes, madrigals, spells and treasure map naming.”

Yeah your right thats a really good one. Has that kind of old man with shaky hand effect to it that makes it look really authentic.
Nice, thanks for posting.

It is a nice font but for $32USD I'd expect it to be.

Yes, maybe I should have stated that it has a price.
Btw, Fractal Mapper isn't a free tool

Microsoft did a fair bit of work to come up with readable fonts for Vista and Office 2007. Candara, Consolas, Calibri, Cambria, Constantia and Corbel are very pretty fonts for Vista but they are also bundled with some of Microsoft's free downloads.
Download either the free Microsoft Powerpoint 2007 Viewer or the Microsoft Office Compatibility pack - both the software downloads include the new Windows Vista fonts. Either install the updates or unzip the EXEs and then the CABs to find the TTF files.

Be aware that the fonts are very pretty and nice to use for screen documents etc. but they may also be associated by your reader with Vista modernness etc... Still they're nice clear fonts.

Who has been looking for a good FREE Font resource to share - and is now satisfied.
Though free download does not make a font free
I'll toss out one...
The Bitstream Vera family was released as open source fonts for the Gnome project... Information here and download here.

The functional equivalent of the GPL for fonts is the Open Font License.

Gentium is a wonderful font. Very complete with international characters.
AntykwaTorunska is also a favourite mapping font of mine.
The site has TTFs some Open Type and even a few Postcript fonts.
