    I'm not sure.. what techniques are you using? Maybe just gaussian blurring it or something might help a little bit... I'm not sure.

    I basically just painted the colors over each other, switching to some transitionary colors and smudging them a bit. But I like the idea of a blur, that might help.

    Why not color each biome on a different layer with a low opacity brush and maybe duplicate the layer when you find your color is too weak, then play with opacity and blending mode ?
