If you are going to add slight color variation other places and for other elements, then maybe the greenish/yellow, if not the more monochromatic works well.
Hmmm, they are both good, looks like the grey one is a bit sharper though, would say the green color + the sharpness of the grey would be my preference there The icons look great, simple but interesting!

I prefer the color, but imo it looks more like grass, not really trees.
Thanks a lot for the useful comments guys!
So, I keep the colors and tried a combination of the two versions. I'll obviously have to be more precise about the coloring, but the general idea is this. I thinks it works better.
I know I'll have to put a halo around some labels (and probably won't put so much labels anyway...).
For a better view, the first is at my full working size

Couldn't resist to name the Elyden Strait. Of course, the original owner can change it if he wants .
Looks great Ilanthar. Though some labels are barely legible.
That looks good Ilanthar.
You achieved a nice balance with color softness and edge sharpness.

Thanks all, I'm glad you like it.
@Max : I know, I know... I'm testing but I'm still not really satisfied (hard to read at final size).
Here's the same for the whole country.

Wow, that looks utterly awesome Ilanthar! I could imagine the forests even a tad less saturated, but i guess you tested that already Keep up your great work, it's always very inspiring!
Cheers,
AL
Yeah I think in the north the spots of really saturated forest stand out a lot, maybe try desaturating them or evening out the color? But I think everything south of Farenvago looks amazing! I really like how the trees blend in with the mountains.
