Yeah, those are from a different symbol set intended for black and white cities. I used them as a bit of an experiment. I think the lines could work if I used them at about a third of their size, maybe, so the line work looks a bit more consistent. Then again, maybe not! For now I'll take the hit on that as they serve the purpose but definitely something to focus on more in future maps.

So I think this here will be my final version, I've had a bit of time to think on it and don't really feel the need for any further details to clutter up what's there.
What I have done is fiddle with the color contrast and saturation to make the darker areas a little darker and the light stand out a bit more where it filters into the building. I also added a simple text title at the bottom for completeness' sake. I'm not a fan of cartouches on a dungeon/battle map, personal preference so I really can't think of anything more to add.

And there it is, The Old Church, my first (and hopefully not last) competition submission. I entered this one as a bit of a coincidence but it's fun thinking a little more deeply about what I was doing past "What do I need for my game". I will definitely try my hand at the next challenge to come up. Thanks for all the kind words and criticisms, both are equally appreciated

Interesting look , although I'm not sure why you decided to put such a heavy glow on your trees. It just doesn't look right to me. Personal opinion of course.

Great entry ReverendRover. Nice looking map that is very "playable". I agree with ladiestorm that the dark glow under the trees is a bit heavy especially where you have nice regular shadows, BUT I also see how it gives the map a nice dark ominous look.

Nice job on this! I really like the shadows you did on the interior!

Eh, I kinda like the glow on the trees, it gives them a sense of height over the other foliage to my eyes. I might have a play with reducing it somewhat or extending the blur so it isn't quite as prominent and see if I like it. Maybe just reduce it to give them a very faint outline to retain that definition from the shrubs etc beneath them. We'll see

I personally like that heavy darkness around them it gives them a real sense of hight. Otherwise they might look like shrubbery or something.

Nice looking map! Really great integration of the elements. I didn't notice the heavy outline around the trees until it was mentioned. Now that I do notice it I can see the ups and downs either way.

This is really nicely done, love the rocks crashing through the wall, and tiles, ground color is really nice too. Great job, now some labeling?
