You can never have too many people, when the war comes.
When the orc army comes by, they can throw rock and buckets from their windows.

    This looks so gorgeous Sue
I love it. This will be absolutely stunning when you are done.
Hell, it looks stunning right now.

I like the idea of the chimneys in cliffs, but am not sure it will read well.
I would not be sure how i'd do it so you'd easily understand that it was a chimney.

...And any other stuff they just happen to have to hand. I think the city might see fit to arm them with crossbows perhaps?

This district is cut in half across the narrow middle section N/S by the city wall, so I can have totally different things going on in each half. Inside the city (eastern half of the map) things will be pretty crammed, while outside (western half) there will be the ruins of older defences, evidence of troglodytes, an applicant camp, five spam testing stations...

All kinds of ideas coming on. I just have to finish the basic cliffs first before I start getting all elaborate like that

Sadly, I've only done an inch more cliff work today, but I'm hoping to do a lot more tomorrow.

    EDIT: ninja'd by John

    You're too kind, John.

I have an idea how to show the caves are inhabited. I might have a couple of chimneys poking out of the tops of the mesas, but I could also have stone steps and masonry around modified cave mouths...

    Any suggestions welcome

Miniscule section of cliff, but probably the hardest part. I made the line of the cliff more interesting, and added a way to get in.

    Aaaand..... another section of cliff.

(you must be getting bored of this by now!)

I think I will work on the settlement layers once I finish this particular outcrop - at least in the western half

I don't understand where your skill come from. Where was it hidden all that time?
You are good with the painting style.
Have you already considered making a regional map like Viking for example?

    Thank you, Azelor

I don't think I am anywhere near as good as Viking...

As to where it comes from - I was a landscape painter (oil on canvas) for many, many years (too many). I've only been a fantasy cartographer for not quite 2 years. This is more my 'style' than any of the other maps I've done before because it is quite literally a painting.

I hadn't done one like this before because I didn't think anyone would be all that interested. An associate of mine who is a pro designer once told me that my paintings were; "sell-able, but very 'Bob Ross', and because of that they do tend to be a bit... sickly sweet." (As a pro designer, she had a house with a swimming pool in the nice part of town, so I think she probably knew what she was talking about )

It also takes an unbelievable amount of time to paint every rock
