Step away from the computer and get thee to a book shop now! (Try Tigana if you want high fantasy, or Lions of Al-Rassan if you like (sorta) alt-history. Also have tissues on hand.) I've only read the first two Long Price books, and I find them a little slow (not necessarily a bad thing) but very immersive.

But where was I? Oh yeah, mapping....! This looks fantastic, Diamond, and it's great to see Abu's banners again. I really want to do mountains like those too. They're fab.

Haha, cheers for the recommendations ChickPea, think I'll start with Tigana then! Right now all books except In the Labyrinth of Drakes must wait, though Sorry for this sidetrack to your thread, Diamond

No worries; I don't really believe in the concept of thread-jacking. If things wander off course, well, that's what they call having a conversation, right?

Well you inspired me, since your civs (I think) will have similarities...

Aaaaaaand, I decided to start a second version. The first one is the default for now, but I'm excited about this one. It'll be more inclusive, showing parts of my neighbors' lands, and will be more of a traditional icon map.
