I prefer the same style for the two maps, and maybe an outline on the larger area to show the insert area. I'd only change if there was a reason for the coloration change (for example, showing delineation of forests to desert or something, where color means something)

Thanks for the comments, guys! In fact, I had the intention of coloring them .
So here it is with a color test on the main map.

Thanks, I think I'll go with that option. Not sure about the outline. I may use it if it's not that obvious, indeed.

I take back what I said about the main map being only half as strongly coloured. I think it would look nice done in exactly the same way as the inset, like Snodsy suggested. That colour test on the inset map was beautiful! Might need to double up on the shading on the main map to take that kind of colour intensity though?

    Thanks, Mouse & Thomas !

I had no time to work on this today (maybe in the night or tomorrow...). I just raised the opacity of the shadows, following your advise.
    Better?

Everything you do with maps is pretty amazing

Are you going to colour it like the inset map?

Herrr... I rarely feel like I do amazing things, tbh. But thanks !

It's a mess between the multiple layers and the different softwares, so no, I won't. I mean, part of the colors of the first inset map is due to the wilbur layers with some effects and opacities. And I try to do most of things with Krita to get things in order.

I tried to enhance the colors of the two maps, then. Hope it works.

Oh yes that's much better, especially with a bit more shading to add contrast and form to the colours

I really like that view you have pasted in there as another inset!

Not sure I'll have the time to do something with it though.

    Some tests about rivers/towns/labels.

    Looking really good Ilanthar

I really hope you've got enough time to do some kind of quick arty sketch to fill in that scene there, using the same angle and composition.

I think the inset map looked really lovely with the Wilbur detail. The colours were much warmer, but if its difficult to match the two maps then best stick with the colours that can be used in both. Maybe just a tiny bit more colour variation? I don't know. Maybe also the sea a bit less grey? Something to contrast with the land? Could be almost white even?

I'm just throwing out ideas here. Please ignore me if those aren't the directions you want to go

EDIT: Forgot to answer the question! The towns and labels look great
