Nice job I do like it better, how did you thin it out. In the past I've selected the linework, expanded 1 px to delete the art, then contracted it 2-3 px, but then the lines seemed for choppy and not as clean. Just wondering.

It's a ridiculously simple trick really. I tried your idea first, but that ended up really really ugly. After some messing around I found this:
    - copy the entire layer
    - open the quickmask
    - paste (and align with the original)
    - close the quickmask
    - hit delete

This appears to work only if the brush you used was rather soft-ish, by the way. The blurry edges are the ones that get partly selected.

What this trick actually does is select each pixel based on the formula "100% minus their opacity". So the empty space gets selected 100%, the thick opaque pixels in the middle of the line don't get selected at all, and the blurry edges get chafed away relative to their transparency. Simple but glorious!

Yeah! I like the thinner linework! That's awesome that that worked.
Before the linework dominated a bit but now the shading does more work, which is good. Kinda feels like the mountains are more part of the terrain more too.

I'm not sure I like the lines (rhumb lines??) in the lakes

They are, and you're right, that's why I erased them from the final version which I'll post in the finished section in a few moments 😁
