Posted to the CC2 list today: http://www.fantasyfonts.com/fonts-page1.htm
Looks like a great selection!
Just wandering about here, I noticed a few people with an interest in fonts, and I thought this might be of use:
Larabie Fonts
More than 300 fonts, all free, even for commercial use. They're all nice, and several are especially interesting. I found Vinque to be especially nice.
Hope you find this useful!
Vinque is indeed very nice. Thanks for the link to that site!
More sites:
Blambot (mostly comic-style effects fonts, but sometimes you want that....plus a few fantasy feeling fonts) http://www.blambot.com/
Sadly, the free fonts are no longer free at Letterhead, but they've got a lot of nicely designed ornate fonts: http://www.letterheadfonts.com/ (I really want LHF Unlovable.)
Here's another great link for free fonts
fontex.org/
I found this site:
http://www.moorstation.org/typoasis/...emnew/home.htm
Where they are offering up several hundred fonts, many, many which are super for fantasy mapping, either as label text or as heading text!
Also, jump over to the lab:
http://www.moorstation.org/typoasis/.../lab/index.htm
for a bunch more, and the Futurex project for SCI-fi fonts:
http://www.moorstation.org/typoasis/...turex_home.htm
The whole site is a community font collection:

(Brilliant!)

Here are some of the fonts I've loved for maps and similar things. Really depends on the style of your "map author" I find.
Each of them is "Font Name: letter examples". They have all been very good to me at different times.

Have a look at this: The Alphabet Synthesis Machine. Allows you to create your own own font by using a 'seed glyph' which acts as the base of the font. Good for alien type scripts.
Example of one I created below.
