I think I will bump up my OLD Town and then make none smaller than 15'-20'. (My outer roads are drawn at 15' wide (3 grid units)

Update District 39 Engineering & Power
Buildings mostly drawn (roof lines still to do), Tree/Topo shadows basically done - Southeastern Houses started shadowing. Drew engineering compass/border elements (not done). Labeled POWER PLANT elements of NW quad. I'll be grunge it up a bit later, stones on the road/tracks/etc.

Comments welcome. ### Latest WIP ###District39_8.jpg

This is really well done Snodsy. I like the way you have drawn the side drawing of the mechanisms and I like how your buildings look. I also like how you have drawn your elevations and all of the tiny little details that I could spend all day combing over just to see what little visual treats you've left us.

LOL! More likely I've given my people palaces, rather than houses

Looks very very cool so far. It's got an atmosphere like a very precise blueprint, which is perfect. Do you have any thoughts on how electric reviver towers would be? I'm thinking large toruses of copper coils with the doughnut hole pointing at your district.

I love the map, but I adore the drawing of the bridge dam in the bottom left hand corner!

Finished shadows, working on roof lines and small details. Added street names. Comments welcome.

This will be done soon enough, and it looks great.

But oy, it is making me feel way behind with people starting to finish up. Guess I better stop taking a break and get back on it.

I wonder if you could shed some light on how you do the shadows I really struggle with mine, what blend mode, and colours do you use to get that effect? Whenever I try everything under the shadows gets sort of muddy looking, is there a trick to this?
Something I'm not sure if I'm doing right with shadows - is overlapping types of shadow to create deeper shadows by having two shadow layers.

I have a BUILDING SHADOW LAYER and a GROUND SHADOW LAYER, these live at the TOP most layer. (sometime below the line art layer(s), sometime above)

THE GROUND SHADOW LAYER - cliffs, trees, natural elements.
Applied with large soft brush (28px) at 10% transparency and just slowly build it up, MODE is NORMAL.

    THE BUILDING SHADOW LAYER
is applied with the STRAIGHT LINE LASSO TOOL and PAINT FILLED at 100% or brushed in with a hard 13px round brush at 100% - the layer is then adjusted for desired opacity (roughly 20% to match ground shadow)

I just visualize the sun hitting the hill and get really into it, beer helps too.

Just one question - who is that telescope in the Non-Traditional Research lab/observatory pointed at?
Who? or What? One of the field at the Engineering College is Astronomy - so those graduates who now work there probably use it---not sure what?

I think I'm a little ahead of the curve, not too many done, hope you find it inspirational
